From Ghosting to Gratitude

After being completely ghosted with zero contact, I decided to call my dad. My dad almost always has a solution or some type of advice to give. He reminded me that I grew up with a boy whose father is a real estate attorney, and he told me to give him a call. So we did…

He told us that we needed to go change the deadbolt on the door. Thank goodness my parents still had a copy of our house key. He also told us that the next day we needed to just agree to the $500 credit that the buyer is asking for. That way we have given her everything she has asked for and if she declines we can go after her escrow. Honestly, that really pissed me off because we had already given this buyer so many credits, but at the same time we just wanted this deal to be done.

So at 9 pm on a Friday night, myself, Chance, and my dad are “breaking in” to our house and changing the lock. The next morning our agent contacted the buyer's agent and said we would agree to the $500 credit, but the buyer would need to wire the funds by Monday at 12:00 pm or the deal would be off and we would go after the buyer's escrow. Oh, and they have to pick up the new key (lol).

We didn’t hear from the buyer's agent until Sunday evening, and they finally agreed. They had the wire in by Monday at 12 pm, and once the wire was in our bank, we drove the new key over to the title company. We were so happy to be done with the deal. It was incredibly stressful.

Now, having lived with my mother-in-law for 9 months, we are extremely appreciative of her opening her doors to us. It has also allowed us to save a lot of money. While rates are still insane, we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. We probably won’t purchase a house until the market cools and there are at least two rate cuts.

Now, I am not sure if you believe in God, a higher power, or aliens, but I believe us moving in with my mother-in-law was divine intervention because a few months later I got diagnosed with breast cancer, and would have to recover from a major surgery where I couldn’t lift anything for 6 weeks…
