Ghosted By The Buyer
A lot has happened in the last year. In my last post It's Been A Year, I mentioned that we moved. We sold our starter home and moved in with my Mother In Law. With rates increasing and the market being a sellers market, we decided to take advantage of the situation. We did this because we were starting to feel stuck. I think a lot of people our age is struggling with the insane cost of living and housing. We did not want our starter home to be our forever home. We were cramped with three large dogs and two babies. If we didn’t pull the trigger we probably would have stayed another 5+ years in that house and I just had a bigger and better vision for us.
We made the decision pretty quickly, and within a few days, our house was on the market. Within a matter of 24 hours, we had several offers. We went with the second offer and went under contract. The entire process was a shit show. To make a long story short, everything was going well until the day we were supposed to close. Chance and I signed our paperwork bright and early and handed our house key to the title company. The buyer was doing a remote close because she was not from the area. Little did we know, her realtor showed up at the title company, took our house key to do a final walkthrough, and instructed her buyer not to sign the paperwork yet.
A few hours later, her realtor sent our realtor a nasty email demanding a $2,000 credit because we “stole” the following items: deep freezer, wine fridge, washer and dryer, 2 curtains, 2 curtain rods, 2 TV wall mounts, and 2 night lights. First of all, fuck off. Okay, so my bad, I took the 2 curtains, 2 curtain rods, and TV mounts when we shouldn’t have. But the washer and dryer were excluded in the contract. ANDDDD if her realtor knew how to do her job, she would know that a deep freezer and a wine fridge are not standard appliances and that the 2 night lights in the boys’ room are not considered fixtures.
After their realtor reread the contract and spoke to the buyer, they proceeded with a $500 credit for the missing items. Now I am just pissed. The curtain, curtain rods, and TV mounts were all purchased on Amazon for a grand total of $278.37. We sent back a counter-offering a credit of that exact amount. And then silence…
So it is Friday at 5:00 pm, the bank is closed, there is no wire from the buyer, and our house key is with the buyer's agent, and no one is answering their damn phones.
